Checking the wiring and component
- Ignition off
- Check the control module and knock sensor (KS) connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Contact resistance and oxidation
.
Check the signal cable between control module terminal #51 and knock sensor (KS) terminal #1. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, intermittent faults . Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage, intermittent faults . Check for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults .
Check the ground lead between control module terminal #76 and knock sensor (KS) terminal #2. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage, intermittent faults . Check for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults .
Check the screened cable for the knock sensor (KS) between control module terminal #19 and knock sensor (KS) terminal #3. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage, intermittent faults . Check for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults .
Check that the knock sensor (KS) is not loose.
Try a new knock sensor (KS) if no fault is found during the above fault-tracing.
Remedy as necessary.
