Checking the stop lamp switch

Start the engine.
Read off the status of the stop lamp switch.

When the brake pedal is unaffected, the value should be OFF. When the brake pedal is depressed the value should be ON.

OK
Refer to Signal too high. Intermittent fault
NOT OK
Refer to Checking the status of the stop lamp

Disconnect the stop lamp switch.
Check whether the stop lamps go out.

Do the stop lamps go out?

YES

NO
Refer to Checking for a short-circuit
