Cleaning And Checking the Rear Brake Caliper

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Volvo S40, 2003 Volvo S40, 2002 Volvo S40, 2001 Volvo S40, and 2000 Volvo S40. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Clean the components with denatured alcohol. Check for wear, damage, cracks and rust. Replace components as necessary.

Always replace the O-ring and dirt guard.

Make sure that cables and O-ring grooves are clean.

The brake caliper must always be completely replaced if the cylinder shows signs of major damage or scratches.

Use a fine grinding paper to remove any traces of rust.
