System pressure/stall speed, check: Check
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Volvo S40, 2003 Volvo S40, 2002 Volvo S40, 2001 Volvo S40, and 2000 Volvo S40. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Air conditioning (AC) should be off. Place chocks behind all four wheels. Start the engine.
CAUTION:
Apply the parking brake and depress the brake pedal hard with your left foot during the check.
Move the selector lever to D , apply full throttle max 5 seconds and read off the highest rpm as well as system pressure. Compare with the chart below.
NOTE:
The stall speed check must not last more than 5 seconds.
| Gear position | System pressure, MPa |
|---|---|
| D | 1,12-1,34 |
| R | 1,67-2.04 |
| Engine | Stall speed, rpm |
| B4184S2 | 2250 100 |
| B4204S2 | 2350 100 |
| B4204T3 | 2550 100 |
| B4204T5 | 2800 100 |
| Normal stall speed at sea level and +20°C air temperature (speed reduces by 120 rpm per 1000 m above sea level, and 50-100 rpm per 10°C over +20°C air temperature). | |
Repeat the check with the gear selector in R.
Compare with the table.
If the speed exceeds the table values, see High stall speed ; if speed is below the table values, see Low stall speed .
