Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information
Condition
The oil temperature sensor sends a signal to the control module which is used for functions such as temperature controlled lock-up and the engagement of high-temperature programs. The sensor has an NTC (negative temperature coefficient) resistor. The signal (voltage) decreases with increasing oil temperature. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) TCM-0046 is stored if the control module receives a signal from the oil temperature sensor corresponding to a temperature above approximately +160°C (320 °F) for approximately 2 minutes.

- Poor oil cooling.
- Mechanical fault in the transmission.
- The transmission has been exposed to extreme load and high ambient temperature.
