Checking the wiring and connections

Check the wires between steering wheel angle sensor (SAS) control unit #12 (#A36) and steering wheel control unit (SWM) #13 (#A13) for an open circuit as described in Open-circuit, intermittent faults , and for an intermittent short circuit to ground as described in Short-circuit to ground, intermittent faults .
