Intermittent fault
- Ignition off.WARNING:
Never use an ohmmeter or any other charged measuring instrument on a disconnected, undeployed explosive air bag. There is a risk that the air bag could be deployed
CAUTION:Avoid touching the contact pins in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit. There is a risk of an electrostatic discharge which can cause damage to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit.
Check the connectors to:
- right side air bag
- the 2 pin connector
- the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit.
for contact resistance and oxidation as described in Contact resistance and oxidation and for a loose contact as described in Loose connections (terminals) .
Check the wire between the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit 4C (60) and the 2 pin connector 1 for an intermittent short circuit to voltage supply as described in Short-circuit to supply voltage, intermittent faults .
Check the wire between the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit 3C (59) and the 2 pin connector 2 for an intermittent short circuit to voltage supply as described in Short-circuit to supply voltage, intermittent faults .
Check the wire between the 2 pin connector 1, 2 and connector 1, 3 on the right side air bag for an intermittent short circuit to voltage supply as described in Short-circuit to supply voltage, intermittent faults .
Do the necessary corrective action.
Additional information:
- To access/replace the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit and connector, see Supplemental restraint system module (SRS), replacing
- To access/replace the right side air bag connector, see Airbag driver and passenger (SRS), replacing
- To connect the test box, see Connecting the breakout box
- With ignition off and the 2 pin connector disconnected, the resistance between the 2 pin connector 1, 2 (to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit) and the disconnected battery positive lead should be infinite
- For more information on removal of battery cables, see Battery, disconnecting
- With ignition off and the 2 pin connector disconnected, the resistance between the 2 pin connector 1 and 2 (to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit) should be approximately 22 kΩ
