Replacing the engine cooling fan (FC): Preparation
Remove
- the negative battery cable. First read Battery, disconnecting .
- the intake manifold between the air cleaner (ACL) housing and the front panel.
- the EGR valve from the fan shroud.
- the coolant hose for the control module box.
Remove
- the first section of the right-hand charge air pipe (this is to allow access to the lower mounting for the wiring mounting on the engine cooling fan (FC)).
HINT: When removing the charge air pipe from the charge air cooler (CAC), it is easier if the area around the connection is heated with hot air gun P/N 1158284.
- the tie straps holding the wiring to the fan shroud.
Lift out the hose for the expansion tank from the holders on top of the fan shroud.
Disconnect both the engine cooling fan (FC) connectors.
Automatics only: Remove the upper oil cooler hose on the oil cooler.
Remove both the screws holding the fan shroud.
Carefully lift up the engine cooling fan (FC).
