Condition

Carry out the check by raising the car so the wheels hang freely. Drive carefully using a suitable gear. Lightly apply the hand brake during the check.

Possible Source 

• The coupling sleeve between the transmission and the bevel gear is faulty
• Faulty bevel gear
• Faulty viscous coupling
• Faulty rear axle
• Rear drive shaft(s) is/are faulty.

Fault symptom[s] 

• The rear wheels are not driven
• No four wheel drive.
