Checking the pump motor

Temporarily connect a fuse-protected wire between pump motor connector:

• #2 and positive battery lead
• #1 and negative battery lead.

The motor should start when the wire is connected to the battery. Operate for a maximum of 10 seconds.

Remove the temporarily connected wires.

Does the pump motor start and appear to work normally? 

• YES 

  Refer to Checking the pump motor 

• NO 

  Refer to Checking the wire for an open circuit

• Ignition off.
• Connect pump motor connector.
• Ignition on.
• Activate the pump motor.

  Check that the pump motor starts and appears to work normally.

Does the pump work OK? 

• YES 

  Refer to Checking for contact resistance and oxidation 

• NO 

  Refer to Replacing the component
