Checking Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Counters

HINT: Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) ECC-122, ECC-211, ECC-222, ECC-231, ECC-235 stored at the same time indicate a fault in a common section of the damper motor and outside temperature sensor circuit. The status of the fault can be read off by checking the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) counter. This is why this fault-tracing should be carried out.

Disconnect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) from the VIDA station. Use it in stand-alone mode and connect it to the data link connector (DLC).
Ignition on.
Wait at least 10 seconds for the control module to carry out its diagnostic.
Read off COUNTER 1 for one of the above diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Check the counter value. If the counter is greater than 0 the control module interprets it as an intermittent fault. If the counter is 0 the control module interprets it as a permanent fault.
