IMM-234 Transponder communication
Condition
NOTE:
connecting the breakout box can cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-234 to be stored because the breakout box cables affect the transponder reading.
With the ignition on the immobilizer control module reads the transponder. If the immobilizer control module does not receive an answer from the transponder the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-234 is stored two seconds after ignition on. Faults which cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM- 234 can also cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-225 to be stored.
The diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are erased when the counter value is five.
Possible Source
- The ignition key has a defective transponder.
- The ignition key is the wrong type, has no transponder.
- The ignition key is a new key and does not yet have a security code programmed.
- The ignition key is not a Volvo key or a Volvo key provided for immobilizer generation 2.
- Several transponders activated (programmed or unprogrammed) activated in several keys during transponder reading.
- Cable between control module terminal #10 and antenna ring terminal #4 is short-circuited to supply voltage.
- EMC interference (strong electrical field) during communication phase (at start)
Fault symptom[s]
- The engine starts but stalls directly.
- The engine starts with only some of the customer's keys.
