Scan Tool Scrolling Values

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Volvo C70, 2001 Volvo C70, 2000 Volvo C70, 1999 Volvo C70, and 1998 Volvo C70. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Some values are different to those given in Connector A, #A1 - #A30 . This is because Scan Tool (ST) values are calculated and filtered by the control module. In some cases the engine must be running to obtain relevant values.

1 TRPROGRAM 1= P/R/N/D/3/L Shifting program obtained from gear-shift position sensor. The value shows which shift program the transmission control module (TCM) has chosen to run the transmission, derived from the gear shift sensor signals. If the signals from the gear shift sensor are outside the normal range and a DTC is set, the transmission control module (TCM) selects shift program D.

8 MODES MS2 = LOW/HIGH Mode selector signal MS2
LOW = The signal is grounded in the mode selector (E/W position)
HIGH = The signal is not grounded in the mode selector (S position). The MS1 and MS2 signals give the transmission control module (TCM) the position of the mode selector, which is the same as the mode selected by the driver.
9 MODES POS= E/S/W/FEL Mode selector position
E = Economy
S = Sport
W = Winter. Only indicated when the W button is depressed.
ERROR = Only indicated when both MS1 and MS2 signals are high (signal high) which is not a normal position on the mode selector.
10 SHMODE 2 = E/S/W Shifting program obtained from mode selector.
E = Economy S = Sport W = Winter. The value shows which shift program the transmission control module (TCM) has chosen to run the transmission, derived from the mode selector signals. If the signals from the gear shift sensor are outside the normal range and a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored, the transmission control module (TCM) selects shift mode E.
11 BRAKES = ON/OFF Stop (brake) light switch position
OFF= Stop (brake) light is not activated.
ON= Stop (brake) light is activated.
Signals from the stop (brake) light switch are used to disengage lock-up when braking in order to avoid jolts in the transmission.
12 KD SWITCH = ON/OFF Kick-down switch position
OFF= Kick-down switch is not activated.
ON= Kick-down switch is activated.
The signal from the kick-down switch tells the transmission control module (TCM) that the driver has initiated the kick-down position on the accelerator pedal (AP). The switch should be activated first when the throttle position (TP) sensor position exceeds approx. 95% of wide open throttle (WOT).
13 KICK-DOWN NO/YES Kick-down position
NO = Kick-down position is not activated
YES = Kick-down position is activated. The value indicates if the transmission control module (TCM) selected kick-down activation or not. Kick-down implementation is dependent on vehicle road speed, shift position, the kick-down switch signal and the throttle position (TP) sensor position (kick-down is initiated if the throttle position is above 95% of wide open throttle (WOT))
14 TP SIG= V Throttle position (TP) sensor signal
Measurement range: 0.0-6.3 V Normal value closed throttle position (CTP): approx. 0.3-0.8 V, Wide open throttle (WOT): 3.9-4.7 V. Signal from engine control module (ECM). Signal voltage depends on the TP sensor signal
15 TP V= % Throttle position (TP) sensor position

Measurement range: 0 RPM and up RPM can be generated at idle and with the in P/N position selected. With any other position selected a gear is activated and the transmission input shaft is connected to the output shaft, thus RPM is displayed first when the car is driven. Depending on slippage in the torque converter the transmission RPM and the engine RPM will differ when the lock-up function is not engaged. With lock-up engaged the RPM should in principle be the same for the engine and the transmission.

22 LOAD TQ= ms Load signal
Measurement range: 0 ms (micro seconds) and up Normal value idling with warm engine, in neutral and A/C off: approx. 35 ms. A value of 20 ms or less indicates fuel shut-off in the engine. The load signal from the engine control module (ECM) is proportional to the signal from the engine's Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and varies with the air mass intake.
23 GEAR SOL= R/1/2/3/4/2L/3L/4L Gear in relation to activation of solenoid S1, S2 and SL
R/1/2/3/4= gear without lock-up engaged
2L/3L/4L= gear with lock-up engaged
The solenoids S1, S2 and SL are activated or not activated depending on the gear selected by the transmission control module (TCM). The value shows which gear is selected in relation to the position of the solenoids. Compare with the value below.

OFF= Lock-up solenoid SL is not activated.
ON= Lock-up solenoid SL is activated
31 STH CONT= % Control of system pressure solenoid STH Measurement range: 0-100% System pressure solenoid STH controls transmission reference pressure. The reference pressure in its turn controls the system pressure in the transmission so that the system pressure in position D varies between 0.28-1.2 MPa (R position 0.5-1.8 Mpa). Control of the solenoid is directly dependent on the throttle position (TP) sensor signal. The higher the signal the greater the reference pressure and thus system pressure. 0% control, minimal reference pressure, gives lowest system pressure. 100% control, max. reference pressure, gives highest system pressure.
32 STH AMP= A Amperage, system pressure solenoid STH Measurement range: 0.0-5.6 A Normal value closed throttle position (CTP): 0.7-1.0 A. The value shows the amperage passing through the solenoid circuit. A lower amperage gives a higher reference pressure, which gives a higher system pressure. Control of the solenoid is directly dependent on the TP sensor signal. The higher the signal the lower the amperage and thus also higher the system pressure.
33 P/N POS= P/N/R/D/3/L Constant idle speed compensation
P/N-position P/N = Constant idle speed compensation not activated
R/D/3/L = Constant idle speed compensation activated. So that the ECM can quickly supply the correct idle speed when a gear is engaged (increased load), the ECM receives a signal from the transmission control module (TCM) giving the R/D/3/L- position.
34 WARN LAMP= OFF/ON Indicator and warning lamp in combined instrument panel
OFF= Warning lamp off
ON= Warning lamp on The warning lamp comes on when the ignition is switched on and when driving with the shift selector in positions 3 or L and when the W (Winter) mode is selected. The warning lamp flashes when the transmission control module (TCM) has recorded a fault in the transmission.
35 MIL ECM= NO/YES Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) request to engine control module (ECM). Only in certain markets, USA/CDN (MIL - Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
NO= The transmission control module (TCM) has not made a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) request
YES= The transmission control module (TCM) makes a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) request If there is an emission related fault in the transmission, the transmission control module (TCM) requests that the engine control module (ECM) (Motronic 4.3/Motronic 4.4) light the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). The request occurs for as long as the DTC is stored.

40 TOR LIMIT TCM= NO/YES Confirmation of torque limiting (TCM)
NO= No acknowledgment from the engine control module (ECM)
YES= Acknowledgment from the engine control module (ECM)
When the transmission control module (TCM) requests torque limitation an acknowledgment is sent from the engine control module (ECM) to the transmission control module (TCM). The signal indicates that the engine control module (ECM) has received the request for torque limitation.
41 TOR LIMIT TCT= NO/YES Torque limiting Turbo charge pressure to engine control module (ECM)
NO= No request from transmission control module (TCM)
YES= Request to engine control module (ECM)
