Checking the communication cable

HINT: If there is no communication with the ABS system either it means that there is a fault in the circuit between the connected control modules in the circuit and the data link connector (DLC). 

Check the cable between the data link connector (DLC) terminal 7 and the connected control modules for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults , short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage. Permanent faults and for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

Check the data link connector (DLC) connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to Contact resistance and oxidation .

HINT: For further information about the circuit to the data link connector (DLC), see the relevant Service Information, Wiring Diagram. 

If no faults are found, check Volvo Scan Tool (ST) according to relevant Service Information, Volvo Scan Tool (ST).

Remedy as necessary.

• For connecting breakout box, see Connecting the breakout box .
• The communication cable voltage should be approximately 9-11 V when ignition is on. This applies if the Volvo Scan Tool is not connected. For other signals, see Signal specification Road Traffic Information (RTI) .
