Replacing the fuel tank: Identification

To proceed with the replacement, identify whether the car is constructed for On-Board Refueling Vapor Recovery or an Electrically controlled evaporation system.

Fuel/ignition systems constructed for Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) can be identified using the VINCODE.

If the 8th position in the VINCODE is 8 or 9, the fuel/ignition system is constructed for ORVR.

HINT: The VINCODE decal can be found in three locations in the car:

on the lower edge of windshield on the driver's side, visible from the outside
in the engine compartment, above the battery
on the driver's door well, under the lock.
