Front Wheel Bearing/Hub, Replacing: Removal

Raise the car. Remove the wheel

Remove the brake caliper mounting screws

Hang the caliper up using a piece of wire.

Knock the Drive Shaft Lock Up (Early Version)

Remove the nut

Use counterhold 9995461 (4 wheel studs).

Use counterhold 9995540 (5 wheel studs).

Remove Counterhold And Brake Disc

Loosen the driveshaft end from the hub.

Knock the end of the drive shaft approximately 10-15 mm into the hub. Use a rubber or copper mallet.

Remove:

the screw for the ball joint/wheel spindle
the splashguard under the engine (earlier version).

Remove the control arm and ball joint from the wheel spindle

Pull the control arm down to expose the ball joint. Install protective socket 9995562 on the ball joint.

NOTE: If the ball joint is secured in the wheel spindle, see:

Install Holder 999 5563 To Hold The Control Arm Down

Press the drive shaft into its inner position. Bend out the spring strut. Remove the drive shaft from the hub

Be careful with the drive shaft boot.

Remove:

the four screws (Torx E14) holding the hub to the wheel spindle
the hub on the wheel spindle.

Clean:

traces of metal adhesive from the splines on the drive shaft
the pulse wheel for the ABS sensor.
