Cleaning and checking

Clean the brake pad contact surfaces in the brake caliper.
Check the piston's dirt cap.
If the dirt guard looks worn, replace it as a precautionary measure.
If the dirt guard is damaged, overhaul the brake caliper. See Brake caliper rear, overhaul .

NOTE:

If the dirt guard is damaged, dirt may have penetrated into the cylinder and the brake caliper must be overhauled.
