Removing rear bumper

Remove: 

• the rear floor hatch
• the front floor hatch
• the battery. See: Battery, replacing (model year 2004)
• the center console locker or the subwoofer
• the screws (2), 1 on each side, in the upper edge of the side
• the screws (3), 1 per side
• the 4 clips on the underside of the casing.

Pull the sides of the casing out. Detach the casing at the top. Then pull the casing straight back.

HINT: This operation is easier with two people. 

Remove the cable harness for the parking assistance sensors (if applicable). See: Parking assistance sensor rear, replacing .

Remove the sound proofing (1) and the 4 nuts.

HINT: Use butyl tape to secure the nuts in the socket. Otherwise the nuts are easy to lose. 

Disconnect the connector for the antenna. See: Antenna bumper rear, replacing .
