Trailing Arm: Installation
- Install the trailing arm in the front mounting using screw (A), the control arm for toe-in adjustment in the trailing arm using the 2 screws (B) and the upper and lower control arms on the trailing arm using the 2 screws (C). See Figure. Tighten all the screws and nuts to contact, but do NOT final tighten yet.
- Install, the ABS line on the trailing arm, the support, ABS sensor and protection plate, and the 4 screws (B), the whole hub and the brake disc, and the center nut (A). See Figure. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install brake caliper on the support with the 2 mounting screws. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the brake hose and clamp on the trailing arm. Install the parking brake cable and clamp on the trailing arm.
- Check that the brake disc and wheel rim mating surfaces are clean. Lubricate the hub center guide using rustproofing agent P/N 1161038-3, or equivalent.
- Install the wheel. Tighten the nuts loosely. Then tighten crosswise to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . When tightening with an impact wrench, torque socket 951 2834 must be used. Install the hub cap.
- Tighten screw (A) for the front mounting. See Figure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Tighten screw (B) for the toe-in adjustment control arm in the trailing arm. Tighten screws (C) for the upper and lower control arms on the trailing arm.
- Test drive the car. Check that the ABS warning light is not lit.
- Check wheel alignment. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES - UP TO EARLY PRODUCTION 2004 article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT. Adjust as necessary.
CAUTION:
Check that the wheel bearing has not separated and that the circlip holding the inner bearing ring is in position. The hub must be replaced if the bearing is faulty.
CAUTION:
The correct wheel tightening torques and crosswise tightening for the nuts are essential to avoid stresses in the brake disc.
CAUTION:
Before torque tightening, the car must be on the ground and bounced a few times.
