Checking For Coolant In The Oil

NOTE:

Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

CAUTION:

Ensure that the components are clean and free of foreign objects and lubricant. Use a soap solution.

Pour in 5 ml (2 x 2.5 ml) of reagent VOLVO A with the help of a plastic pipette (3 ml).

Add 0.5 ml of oil that is to be tested with a plastic pipette (1 ml).

Add the contents of one bag of VOLVO B (white powder) directly in the test tube. Fit the cap.

Shake carefully until all the powder has dissolved in the liquid.

Wait 20-25 minutes or place the test tube in hot tap water for at least 5 minutes.

Unscrew the test tube cap. Add the contents of one bag of VOLVO C (lilac powder) directly in the test tube. Fit the cap again.

Shake carefully until all the powder has dissolved in the liquid.

Wait 75 minutes or place the test tube in hot tap water for at least 20 minutes.

Glycol contamination can be determined by the color of the sample. Lilac indicates glycol in the transmission oil, the darker the color the greater the glycol content.

Always wait for the final colors of the sample.

Left test tube (A): No glycol in the transmission oil.

Right test tube (B):Glycol in the transmission oil.

If glycol contamination is discovered in the transmission oil, the transmission, radiator and hoses between the radiator and transmission must be replaced.
