Checking the Cable

The collision cable runs from the SRS control module to the carphone module and the central electronic module (CEM). If the cable is defective, there is a risk that the safety measures in the central electronic module (CEM) and the emergency call from the carphone module will fail if the airbag system is activated.

Activate the voltage level read off by clicking on the VCT2000-symbol.

If the voltage level is:

1. between 0-0.1 V, there is a short-circuit to ground in the collision cable. Refer to Checking the Cable .
2. between 0.2-0.6 V, the collision cable is OK. Troubleshooting has been completed.
3. between 0.65-4.4 V, there is an open-circuit in the collision cable. Refer to Checking the Cable 
4. above 4.8 V, there is a short-circuit to +12 V in the collision cable. Refer to Checking the Cable

Check the collision cable for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-Circuit To Ground, Permanent Faults . Take resistance readings between body ground and one of the following connectors:

• carphone module connector terminal A17 (#17)
• central electronic module (CEM) connector terminal 5D (#B5)
• SRS control module connector terminal 30 (#2B).

The resistance between a fault free cable and body ground should be infinite.

Remedy as necessary.

Refer to Verification 

Check the connectors for loose connections according to Contact Resistance And Oxidation .

Check the collision cable for an open-circuit according to Open-Circuit, Permanent Faults . Take resistance readings between body ground and one of the following connectors:

• carphone module connector terminal A17 (#17)
• central electronic module (CEM) connector terminal 5D (#B5)
• SRS control module connector terminal 30 (#2B).

The resistance for a fault free cable is approximately 0 Ω.

Remedy as necessary.

Refer to Verification 

Check the collision cable for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-Circuit To Supply Voltage. Permanent Faults . Use a voltmeter to take readings between battery ground and one of the following connectors:

• carphone module connector terminal A17 (#17)
• central electronic module (CEM) connector terminal 5D (#B5)
• SRS control module connector terminal 30 (#2B).

The voltage should be 0 V for a fault free cable.

Remedy as necessary.
