Preparations for installing the sealing ring

Position the viscous coupling in a vise with soft jaws.
Sealing ring 42 mm (early version)
Cut away a piece of the sealing ring lip.
Use a heavy screwdriver with a broad tip.
Tap the screwdriver in to make a notch in the metal holder for the sealing ring. Then press hard and pry the seal out.
NOTE:
Do not insert the screwdriver between the sealing ring and needle bearing.
Sealing ring 47 mm (late version)
Position the screwdriver under the seal lip. Pry out the seal.
NOTE:
Check that no dirt gets into the needle bearing.
