Line pressure/stall speed, check: Check

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2006 Volvo S80, 2005 Volvo S80, 2004 Volvo S80, 2003 Volvo S80, and 2002 Volvo S80. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The air conditioning (A/C) must be turned off. Block all four wheels. Start the engine.

CAUTION:

Apply the parking brake. Press down hard on the brake pedal using your left foot during the test.

Move the gear selector to position . Fully depress the accelerator pedal (AP) for a maximum of 5 seconds  . Read off the maximum engine speed (RPM) and the line pressure. Compare to the table below.

NOTE:

Do not test the stall speed for longer than 5 seconds.

Gear shift position  Line pressure MPa
D 1.28-1.39
R 1.71-1.98
Engine  Stall speed RPM
B5204T5 2800
B5244T3 2800
B5234T7 2890
B5244S/S2 2670
B5244S 2550
Normal stall speed at sea level and an air temperature of +20 °C (the engine speed (RPM) reduces by 120 RPM per 1000 meters above sea level and by 50-100 RPM per 10°C above +20°C air temperature).

Repeat the test with the gear selector in position R.

Compare to the table.

If the engine speed (RPM) exceeds the value in the table, see High stalling speed  . If the engine speed (RPM) is less than the value in the table, see Low stalling speed  .
