Rear seat entertainment module (RSE)

The rear seat entertainment system is supplied power and regulated by the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) (16/124).

When the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) receives a switch-on command from the infrared remote control via the IR receivers in one of the head restraints, it performs a simple system check and then sends commands to other system components for activation. Once a screen (16/81A, B) has been selected with the infrared remote control, the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) identifies the selected screen and displays a menu from which the user can select the functions described below:

Independent shifting of three audio/video inputs (DVD, TV (if installed) and AUX)
Image adjustment (image color, brightness, contrast and aspect ratio)
Audio settings (bass, treble and volume)
Language selection for on-screen instructions
Switch individual screens ON/OFF

The rear seat entertainment module (RSE) also determines which media source has been linked to the selected screen and forwards the commands in an appropriate protocol. For example, if screen 1 is set for DVD playback and an infrared playback command is detected at screen 1, it will be received, stored and forwarded to the DVD player (16/82) in the DVD player's infrared protocol. A fixed memory stores the instruction language used and current audio and video settings for the respective output channel. These settings are loaded upon start. Volume is automatically set to low level.
