DVD player
There may be a slight delay between selecting a DVD function with the remote control and activation of the DVD player function. A message will appear on the screen to confirm that the DVD function was selected. Display of "Not permitted" indicates that the DVD player is still processing a previously selected function.
The DVD player is not operational until the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) (16/124) has been activated via an infrared switch-on command from the remote control and the screens are lit.
This means, for example, that a disc in the DVD player (16/82) cannot be ejected until the rear seat entertainment system has been switched on.
A microprocessor is used to control the power supply to the DVD player based on the position of the ignition key. This is handled via a connection from the ignition switch to the rear seat entertainment system (RSE). The system is functional when the ignition key is in position II. If the voltage in the lead is high, the DVD player can be supplied power. If voltage in the lead is low, the system cannot be supplied power. The lead for controlling power supply is also used to activate the fan on the rear of the player.
The microprocessor is also used to send commands to and receive information from the DVD mechanism. IR commands from the remote control are received by the rear seat entertainment module (RSE) and come to the DVD player via the IR pin on the rear connection block (ISO connection). IR commands are interpreted by the microprocessor. The DVD player is used to read the source media, which consists of DVDs and CDs that fulfil relevant standards. The DVD player does not read CD-R discs. The use of DVD-R, CD-RW and DVD-RW discs in the DVD player is also discouraged.
Introduction of a new version of the DVD player is expected week 5 2005. The new DVD player can play DVD-R/+R, DVD-RW/+RW, CD-R and CD-RW discs. It can also read Kodak photo CDs and play MP3 files in the disc's root directory and subfolders. The DVD player will also be able to read play lists for MP3 files in M3U format.
When a DVD is inserted in the opening, DVD playback starts automatically if the disc does not have a play menu. DVD playback can be resumed from a pause, for example if the ignition is switched off while a movie is being played. Playback then resumes where it left off once the ignition is switched back on. Audio and video signals are fed out from the DVD player from the connection block (ISO connection) on the rear of the unit.
