Reading off the engine coolant temperature (ECT)

• start the engine and run it until the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reaches approximately 100°C
• when the engine coolant temperature (ECT) is 100°C activate the engine cooling fan (FC) with the engine running
• wait for 90 seconds
• switch off the engine cooling fan (FC).

  Read off the engine coolant temperature (ECT). If it is 85 °C or lower when the fan stops, the thermostat is defective.

Was a fault detected? 

• YES 

  Refer to Replacing the thermostat 

• NO 

  OKAY:  Troubleshooting has been completed.
