Checking The Component
- Start the engine
- Activate reading off the actual and desired values for the reset valve. Check that they are approximately the same at different engine speeds (RPM)
- These values cannot be checked at idle speed. The variable valve timing is normally at 0 CA, even if a fault is stored. When the car is stationary, it may be difficult for the variable valve timing (VVT) to change unless a quick and powerful surge occurs. This is because the load is too low. However, variable valve timing (VVT) is always activated at extremely high engine speeds (RPM).
Check that the timing belt has not jumped off the cogs. Check that the camshafts are in the correct position.
Check the oil level and oil quality.
HINT: Faults may result from dirt in the camshaft reset valve. Try cleaning the valve.
Try a new camshaft reset valve if the above fault-tracing does not solve the fault.
Remedy as necessary.
