Move the front seats to their rearmost, uppermost positions
Turn the ignition switch to position 0.
Remove the key from the ignition switch (does not apply to cars with automatic gearbox).
Disconnect the battery negative lead.

NOTE:

Wait at least five minutes before disconnecting the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.

Detach the rear edge of the gear selector lever cover together with the boot until the two clips release. Use a plastic weatherstrip tool. Remove the gear selector lever cover and the boot. Pull the panel up until the four clips at the sides release.

Engage the handbrake and move the gear selector lever towards the rear.
Rotate the panel to the left for better access.
Remove the two screws holding the bracket with the radio and dashboard environment panel in the center console.

Remove the bracket with dashboard environment panel and the radio from the center console: Pull the lower edge out and downwards until it releases from the mounting at the upper edge. Then fold backwards.
NOTE:
Do not damage the removed components or the surrounding panels.

If necessary, the panel around the gear lever selector can be removed for additional space. The panel is secured with four catches on the underside along the boot.
Disconnect the connectors from the radio and dashboard environment panel. Place the unit to one side.

Remove the panel from the gear change lever boot. First press in the four catches around the panel. Then pull the panel up.

Remove the right and left-hand side center console panels (1). Turn the clip at the rear edge of the panel through 90°. Pull the rear edge of the panel outwards and backwards
Remove the two screws on the panel (2) under the glove compartment. Remove the panel. Then pull the panel downwards / backwards at the rear edge, it is secured by three clips
Remove the sill molding (3) on the right-hand side. Pull the front edge of the sill molding back to release it. Then pull the molding upwards.

Remove the rubber mat in the bottom of the storage compartment in the center console and remove the two screws underneath. The rubber mat shall not be re-used.

Remove the boot for the handbrake lever by carefully prizing it away all around using a plastic weatherstrip tool. Following which, thread the boot over the handbrake lever.

Remove the panel in the rear edge of the center console. Carefully prize off the panel using a plastic weatherstrip tool.

Remove the holder in the panel (ashtray, if applicable) from the panel. First bend the catches on both sides at the upper edge downwards. Use a small screwdriver. Pull out the holder by the upper edge.

Disconnect the connectors from the reverse of the holder (ashtray, if applicable). Place to one side.

Unplug the connectors to the 12V socket.
Lift out the center console. Do not damage the handbrake lever trim, wind tape around it to avoid chafing.
