Installation (S70, V70 AWD & V70 XC)
- If replacing fuel tank with a new unit, transfer fuel tank filler pipe and heat shield to new unit.
- Fit fuel line and holder. Fit tank pressure sensor, if removed. Twist bracket into position and secure. Install fuel tank pressure sensor cable harness and attach a new cable tie.
- Apply petroleum jelly to new gaskets and install fuel pump units. Install left-side pump first. Grease retaining nut contact surfaces lightly using petroleum jelly. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten nuts to specification using Key (999 5485) and Counterhold (999 5673), or equivalent. Ensure tool pointer is within lines marked on fuel tank to ensure proper pump unit alignment. See Fig 1.
- Fit fuel lines to mounting on fuel tank in original order. Fit line attachments between fuel pump and fuel filter. Fit lines from fuel pump and ejector pump. Fit return line from left-side ejector pump.
- Fit handbrake cable. Raise rear suspension about 4.0" (101.5 mm). Remove cable tie (marked A). Fit handbrake cable with clips using a new pop rivet (marked B). See Figure.
- Secure front of differential to lift table if not already done. Raise rear suspension with fuel tank. Ensure filler pipe does not scratch wheel well liner. Ensure fuel and brake lines are clear of obstruction. Ensure fuel gauge line does not catch in fuel tank strap brackets. Lift tank fitting lines and fuel pump lines through vehicle body (hatch). Adjust and secure filler pipe crash guard bracket.
- Measure distance between rear axle member guide holes outside rear bolts (marked A) and holes furthest to rear on side members. Distance should be 23.3-23.5" (593-597 mm). See Fig 2. Apply Threadlock (1161351-0) to each axle member bolt. Tighten outer bolts and center bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten fuel tank strap attachments and remove lift table.
- Fit brake line into 4 clips under vehicle. Fit fuel and EVAP lines and protective cover. See Figure.
- Ensure contact surfaces of driveshaft and flange are clean. Fit driveshaft onto flange in marked position. Fit each bolt in its original marked position. Tighten in crisscross pattern in two stages. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Use Counterstay (999 5561) or equivalent to prevent driveshaft rotation. See Figure.
- Fit longitudinal stay mountings and jack attachments. Press link arms up into normal position. Connect left-side 3-way branch to left-side jack attachment. Fit longitudinal stay brackets and jack attachments using NEW bolts. Tighten 3 bolts holding longitudinal stay bracket in two stages. Tighten bolt through jack attachment in two stages. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Fit rear exhaust pipe and silencers. Ensure heat shields have clearance.
- Fit fuel filler pipe to body with rubber bellows and circlip. Fit front and rear hatch into body and connector holder. Ensure rubber seal around wiring is properly fitted when rear hatch is fitted. Fit connectors to tank fitting, fuel pump and ABS sensor. Position mount at front edge of cargo compartment floor. Fit screws along rear edge. Fit hatch with rear floor hatch.
- Install wheel well liner and mudflap. Install rear wheel. Tighten lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill fuel tank and check for leaks. Perform test drive and check function of components.
NOTE:
DO NOT apply petroleum jelly to retaining nut threads. Fuel pump units must be aligned properly or fuel gauge may not read correctly.
CAUTION:
Bolts are used for driveshaft balancing. During installation NEW bolts of the same length and color marking MUST be installed in same location or driveshaft will be out of balance.
