Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Check that fuel tank filler cap is on properly and seal is intact.
  2. Check that the fuel tank filler cap is on properly and that its seal is intact. Check hoses and hose connectors at the EVAP canister, EVAP canister shut-off valve and fuel tank. Remedy as necessary. Go to next step.
  3. Ignition OFF. Connect a scan tool. Clear fault memory and ensure no DTCs exist for vehicle speed signal, canister purge valve, EVAP canister shut-off valve and fuel tank pressure sensor. Ensure fuel trim is active. Start engine and let idle until coolant temperature reaches at least 158°F (70°C).
  4. Using scan tool, activate a quick test of fuel system. When test is active, parameter YES will display and then NO This indicates test is ready or has been interrupted.
    • If parameter YES shifts to NO and all fault status have moved to "clear, fault not found", test has been run without any faults being found. Repair is complete.
    • If parameter YES shifts to NO and one fault status displays "fault found", a fault has been detected in that part of the test. Go to step CHECKING VACUUM DOWNSTREAM OF CANISTER PURGE VALVE .
    • If parameter YES shifts to NO and one or several fault statuses has not gone and no fault is detected or if active leak diagnostic status does not shift from YES, test has not started or been interrupted. Start testing process again.
