Diagnostic Procedure (Signal Too High & Signal Too Low)
- Check rear heated oxygen sensor resistance between connector terminals 1 and 2. See Figure. Resistance should be approximately 10 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If not as specified, replace sensor. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - EXCEPT S40 & V40 article.
- Verify repair. Ignition OFF. Reconnect connectors and reinstall components. Connect a scan tool and start engine. Read out rear heated oxygen sensor signal DTC status. If DTC does not reset, diagnosis is done. If fault remains (DTC resets), or if sensor resistance is within specification, go to next step.
- Connect breakout box. See CONNECTING & DISCONNECTING BREAKOUT BOX .
- Check signal cable between heated oxygen sensor connector terminal No. 2 and PCM terminal A35 for an open circuit, a short to ground and a short to supply voltage. See Figure. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.NOTE: A test lamp with a 3-Watt (minimum) bulb will help diagnosis a short to voltage.
- Disconnect breakout box when wiring repair is complete. See CONNECTING & DISCONNECTING BREAKOUT BOX . Verify repair. Ignition OFF. Reconnect connectors and reinstall components. Connect a scan tool and start engine. Read out rear heated oxygen sensor signal DTC status. If DTC does not reset, diagnosis is complete.
