Diagnostic Procedure (Faulty Control)

  1. Check camshaft position sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation. See CHECKING WIRING & CONNECTIONS . Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
  2. Verify repair. Ignition OFF. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Ensure connectors and components are installed properly. Connect a scan tool and start engine. Increase RPM and read out camshaft timing alterations. All values must be between -7° and +7°.
    • For turbocharged engines, when checking values, accelerator pedal must be depressed slightly but engine speed must be below 1200 RPM.
    • For naturally aspirated engines, check values with engine idling.
NOTE: Values for camshaft timing should be the same, however because of mechanical tolerances, values may vary by approximately +/-2 degrees.
  3. If camshaft values are within specification and DTC does not reset, diagnosis is complete. If camshaft timing values are not within specification or if DTC remains after completing repairs, procedure must be repeated to find fault.
