Removal & Installation: Turbocharger: Removal

  1. Remove the heat deflector plate over the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the components from the turbocharger. Disconnect upper charge air pipe with lower rubber hose from the turbocharger and place it to one side. Remove fresh air intake. Remove inner heat deflector plate.
  2. Loosen the turbocharger upper coolant return pipe, clamp the coolant hose with lock grip pliers and place the pipe/hose to one side. Loosen oil inlet nipple. See Figure. Raise the car.
  3. Remove the following components;
    • Clamp between pipes. See Figure.
    • Oil return line.
    • Exhaust pipe bracket bolt.
    • Exhaust pipe-turbocharger nut.
    • Exhaust manifold-turbocharger nuts.
  4. Apply lock grip pliers to the coolant inlet hose. Lower the car. Remove turbocharger. Remove exhaust pipe-turbocharger nuts. Remove coolant inlet pipe. Remove the nuts, turbocharger-exhaust manifold.
  5. Disconnect the hoses for:
    • Boost pressure (red).
    • By-pass valve (white).
    • Pressure regulator (yellow). See Figure.
  6. Remove turbocharger. Remove old studs from exhaust manifold (as needed).
