Valve Stem Installed Height

CAUTION: The valve stems must be at the correct height for the hydraulic valve lifters to operate correctly.
  1. Measure valve stem installed height after refinishing valve or seat. Position the Camshaft Adjustment Tool (999 5222) in the camshaft bearing recesses. See Fig 1.

  2. Measure the height of the valve stem using a vernier caliper through the hole in the camshaft adjustment tool. See CYLINDER HEAD in ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS - 2.3L & 2.4L, 5-CYLINDER article.
