Rear Brake Caliper: Disassembly

  1. Remove brake pipe from brake caliper.
  2. Remove brake caliper mounting bolts (1) and let caliper down. See Fig 3.
  3. Drain remaining brake fluid.
  4. Remove dirt guard (3).
  5. Put a block of wood in front of pistons (4) and press out carefully with compressed air. See Fig 3.
  6. Remove pistons. If one piston comes out but the other will not, use clamp and rubber insert as a counter-hold in place of the removed piston.
  7. Use weatherstrip tool or similar to remove "O" rings (5). See Fig 3.
  8. NOTE: Do not separate the 2 halves. This requires special pressure testing equipment and special assembly fluid.
  9. Remove bleed nipple (7). See Fig 3.
