DTC CI-124: Engine Speed Signal Faulty

This DTC will set if instrument cluster registers an engine speed signal that exceeds 300 Hz (9000 RPM). Tachometer may read too high.
To correct this problem, turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read instrument cluster DTCs. If DTC CI-132 is stored, repair DTC CI-132 first and retest system. If DTC CI-132 is not stored, go to next step.
Using scan tool, perform status check. Go into scrolling values and read engine RPM. If RPM is within permitted range, problem is intermittent. Retest system. If RPM is not within permitted range, go to next step.
Check instrument cluster and ECM connectors for loose connections. Check White/Black wire between instrument cluster connector terminal and ECM terminal B21. If problem was found in connections or White/Black wire, retest system after repairs. If problem was not found in connections or White/Black wire, check for interference from electric motors, ignition wires or cell phone wires and reroute as necessary.
