DTC CI-113: Fuel Level Sensor Signal High

  1. This DTC will set if resistance in fuel level sensor exceeds 335 ohms for more than 10 seconds. The fuel gauge may read permanently empty or too low.
  2. To correct this problem, turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel level sensor connector. Fuel level sensor is located below trunk compartment carpet. Measure resistance between fuel level sensor connector terminals. If resistance is 10-325 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 10-325 ohms, replace fuel level sensor and retest. See FUEL LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and fuel level sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Green wire). If resistance is about zero ohms, go to step  6. If resistance is not about zero ohms, go to next step.
  4. Using a breakout box, measure resistance between instrument cluster connector terminals A5 (Yellow/Red wire) and A15 (Brown wire). If resistance is about zero ohms, repair open between instrument cluster connector terminal A4 (Yellow/Green wire) and fuel level sensor. If resistance is not about zero ohms, use scan tool to perform data read-out and note values. Go to next step.
  5. Replace connection plate (printed circuit). See CONNECTION PLATE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, reprogram instrument cluster with previous data read-out. Retest system.
  6. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between fuel level sensor harness connector terminals. If voltage is 6-8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage between instrument cluster connector terminal A5 (Yellow/Red wire) and fuel level sensor. See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is less than 6 volts, go to step  8.
  7. Turn ignition off. Remove fuel level sensor. See FUEL LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Hold sensor correct way up. Measure resistance between fuel level sensor connector terminals. If resistance is not 325 ohms, replace fuel level sensor and retest.
  8. Turn ignition off. Connect breakout box with instrument cluster connected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between instrument cluster terminal A4 (Yellow/Green wire) and A5 (Yellow/Red wire). If voltage is 4-6 volts, repair open in Yellow/Red wire between instrument cluster and fuel level sensor. If voltage is not 4-6 volts, use scan tool to perform data read-out and note values. Go to next step.
  9. Replace connection plate (printed circuit). See CONNECTION PLATE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, reprogram instrument cluster with previous data read-out. Retest system.
