DTC CI-142: Outside Temperature Sensor Signal Absent

  1. This DTC will set when signal from outside temperature sensor is less than -40°F (-40°C) or more than 140°F (60°C) for more than 10 seconds. The temperature display will be 4 dashes (- - - -).
  2. To correct this problem, turn ignition on. Using scan tool, go to scrolling values and read outside temperature. If outside temperature is within permitted range, problem is intermittent. Retest system. If outside temperature is not within permitted range, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect outside temperature sensor. Outside temperature sensor is located near left headlight, below bumper. Measure resistance between outside temperature sensor terminals. If resistance is about 600 ohms, check and repair open or short in Green/Black wires between instrument cluster connector terminals A24 and A25 and outside temperature sensor. Retest system. If resistance is not about 600 ohms, replace outside temperature sensor. Retest system.
