Self-Diagnostic System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Volvo 850. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

If ABS control module detects a monitored fault, it posts a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and turns on ABS and/or TRACS warning light. System can post 33 ABS DTCs. If equipped with TRACS, system can post 35 DTCs.

Serious faults activate warning lights and disengage ABS, EBD, and TRACS. Less serious faults activate warning lights and disengage some functions. With some DTCs, control module runs a diagnostic check as soon as ignition is turned on. With other DTCs, control module only runs a check when a function is activated, vehicle is being driven, or if road speed exceeds 12 MPH.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES section.
