Engine Oiling System: Notes

A gear-type, shaft-driven oil pump provides pressurized lubrication. Turbo models use an air cooled oil cooler located at the side of the radiator. An engine oil thermostat, located at oil cooler fitting, controls oil temperature.

From oil filter, oil is supplied to drilled galley in center of cylinder block and to the main bearings. Main bearings are drilled to allow lubrication to the connecting rod and camshaft bearings.

Lubrication for camshaft bearings are used to lubricate upper valve components. Excess oil returns to sump through drain holes in block assembly and through the drain hose connected to oil trap in upper block and secured to oil pump.
