Fuel Gauge Sending Unit

NOTE: If fuel tank is more than half full, drain tank before removing sending unit.
  1. Remove sending unit from tank. Connect an ohmmeter across fuel sending unit leads. Move float up and down while checking resistances.
  2. For all except 760 GLE models, the fuel gauge sending unit should have a variable resistance between 230-330 ohms (empty tank) and 35-45 ohms (full tank). For 760 GLE models, refer to the 760 GLE FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCES  chart. On all models, resistance should vary smoothly as float is moved. See Fig 1 .
760 GLE FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCES

Float Position Ohms
Primary Tank
8.1" (206 mm) 34-38
3.5" (90 mm) 92-104
0" (0 mm) 281-311
Secondary Tank
Top 1
Bottom 18
NOTE: Secondary fuel tank sending unit is connected in series with primary fuel tank sending unit. Add primary tank sending unit resistance to secondary tank sending unit resistance to get total resistance for circuit.
