Rear Main Bearing Oil Seal: Installation

  1. Assemble Handle (1801) and Drift (5276) with all spacers. Apply oil to seal contact surface or crankshaft and oil seal lips. Install seal on drift. If crankshaft shows signs of wear, install seal beyond wear point.
  2. Remove one spacer from drift if old seal was even with housing. Remove 2 spacers from drift if old oil seal was below seal housing .12" (3.0 mm). If no signs of wear exist, place both spacers on drift.
  3. Install seal until drift bottoms on crankshaft. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
WARNING: The flywheel has to be indexed properly or the engine will not start after reassembly. See the following assembly procedure and Fig. Figure.
