Fitting Pistons & Rings

  1. Cylinder block may have different bore sizes as designated by letter marked on deck surface near cylinder bore or mark on top of piston (if used). This letter must be used to aid in determining piston diameter.
  2. Piston diameter should be measured at right angle to piston pin .28" (7 mm) from bottom of piston skirt. Replace piston if not within specification. See ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS tables at end of article.
  3. Install piston rings so that ends of rings are positioned 120 degrees apart. Ensure no ring ends align with piston pin.
