Camshaft & Tappets: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate all components with engine oil prior to installation. Install new valve stem rubber seals. Install adjusting shims and tappets in original location.
  2. Install camshaft with dowel pin for camshaft sprocket toward top of cylinder head. Apply Sealant (1161027-6) on front and rear bearing cap-to-cylinder head sealing surfaces prior to installation. Once all bearing caps are installed, tighten retaining bolts to specification.
  3. Lubricate lip of front seal and camshaft. Using Seal Installer (5025), install seal in cylinder head. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Adjust valve clearance. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT under VALVES  in this article.
