Disassembly (M46, M47 & M47-II)

  1. On all transmissions, press off washer, remove springs and brake cone. Remove 1st gear and synchronizer ring from mainshaft. Remove snap ring retaining 1st-2nd gear synchronizer hub and 2nd gear. Using bench press and Adapter (2853), press off 1st-2nd gear synchronizer hub. Press off 2nd gear and 2nd gear synchronizer hub.
  2. Using bench press and Adapter (2853), press off 3rd-4th gear synchronizer hub and 3rd gear. Push hubs out of synchronizer sleeves. Remove intermediate shaft bearing using Puller (5131). Remove input shaft bearing using Adapter (2853).
  3. On M47 and M47-II transmissions, remove 5th gear bearing races using a brass drift. On all transmissions, clean and inspect all parts for wear or damage. Replace seals, gaskets and other parts (if necessary).
