Piston & Rod Assembly: Installation
- Remove rod cap from connecting rod. Secure piston pin with retaining rings. Be sure "TOP" mark on rings is facing top of piston and end gaps are 120 degrees from each other and rings are properly installed. Install bearings in connecting rods and caps. Lubricate cylinder bores, pistons and bearings.
- Using piston ring compressor (5031), insert rod and piston into bore, with mark on top of piston and on connecting rod toward front of engine.
- Using wooden hammer handle, tap lightly on top of piston. Align marks and torque end caps to 43 ft. lbs. Install oil pump, oil pan and cylinder head.
