Front Backrest, Removing And Installing: Removing

WARNING:
  • Follow all safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components.
  • Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.

-- Remove the front seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the tunnel-side seat trim panel. Refer to SEAT TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the mechanical backrest adjustment wheel. Refer to BACKREST ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the sill-side seat trim. Refer to SILL-SIDE SEAT TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, POWER SEAT .

-- Disconnect the connectors for the backrest wiring harnesses.

-- Unclip the clips -2- and -5- from the wiring harness -1- on the seat pan.

-- Loosen the wiring harness -1- with the mesh hose from the seat pan.

-- To do so, loosen all cable ties -3- and -4-.

The wiring harness between the connector station and the thorax airbag is continuous.

-- Guide the wiring harness to the thorax airbag out of the mesh hose.

-- To do so, loosen the cable ties -3- and -4-.

-- Remove the bolts -2-.

-- Remove the bolts -1- through -4-.

NOTE:

The bolts are micro encapsulated and must be replaced after each loosening.

Before installing the new bolts, the threads of the corresponding nuts must be cleaned.

-- Tilt the backrest -5- forward on the seat pan.

-- Move the seat pan cushion to the side.

-- Carefully remove the wiring harness for the thorax airbag from the seat pan.

-- Remove the backrest.
