Head Curtain Airbag With Igniter, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Observe the safety precautions for pyrotechnical components Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Observe the additional safety precautions for the head curtain airbag Refer to ADDITIONAL HEAD CURTAIN AIRBAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Observe the disposal regulations for pyrotechnical components. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING (PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS) .
-- Disconnect the battery ground cable when the ignition is turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the headliner. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disengage the clips -1- through -10- in the mounting tab for the head curtain airbag from the body.
-- To do so, forcefully push the Release Tool Set - Extraction Tool 17:VAS 1978/17 with the >>spoon<< -arrow- all the way into the opening -A-, as shown.
-- At the same time, pull the left side of the clip out of the vehicle body.
-- Pull the Release Tool Set - Extraction Tool 17:VAS 1978/17 back out and make sure that the clips on the loosened side do not re-engage.
-- Turn the Release Tool Set - Extraction Tool 17:VAS 1978/17 180°.
-- Repeat the procedure on the opening -B-.
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Remove the connector lock -2- and remove the connector -3- from the head curtain airbag -4- -arrow-.
-- Remove the bolt -3- from the head curtain airbag.
-- Disengage the head curtain airbag -4- from the mount on the body -arrow A- and push rearward.
-- Disengage the rear head curtain airbag from the mount on the body -arrow B- and remove.
