Right Seal, Replacing, AWD Vehicles

Puller - Inner Output Shaft Seal:T10397
Puller - Outer Output Shaft Seal:T10398
Seal Installer - Inner Output Shaft:T10399
Seal Installer - Outer Output Shaft:T10400

Commercially available drill
Commercially available metal drill bit, 2 to 4 mm
Sealing Grease:G 052 128 A1

NOTE:

There are two different possibilities for removing the seal from the right side.

Removal version A

-- Remove the bevel box. Refer to BEVEL BOX, REMOVING, VEHICLES WITH 3.6L, 206 KW ENGINE .

Small Seal, Removing

-- Lock the Puller - Inner Output Shaft Seal:T10397 using the knurled bolt and mount the torque wrench.

-- Turn the Puller - Inner Output Shaft Seal in the seal -2-.

-- Unlock the Puller - Inner Output Shaft Seal using the knurled bolt and turn again.

-- Remove the seal.

NOTE:

If the seal falls down:

-- Mount the Puller - Inner Output Shaft Seal again and remove the seal.

Large Seal, Removing

-- Lock the Puller - Outer Output Shaft Seal:T10398 using the knurled bolt and mount the torque wrench.

-- Turn the puller to 100 Nm in the seal -1-.

-- Unlock the Puller - Inner Output Shaft Seal using the knurled bolt and turn again.

-- Remove the seal.

NOTE:

If the seal falls down:

-- Install the puller into the seal (120 Nm).

-- Remove the seal.

Removal Version B

-- Remove the bevel box. Refer to BEVEL BOX, REMOVING, VEHICLES WITH 3.6L, 206 KW ENGINE .

-- Grease the drill bit -3- so that the shavings stick to it.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the bearing behind the shaft seal.

Only drill through the metal ring of the shaft seal.
Do not install the screw too deep.

-- Seal the opening on the transmission for the drive axle with a clean cloth -2-.

-- Carefully drill a 2 to 4 mm hole into the outer metal ring -1- of the shaft seal.

-- Install a bolt (approximately 4 mm diameter) into the drilled out hole on the shaft seal.

-- Remove the shaft seal with the Puller - Unit Injector:T10055 with the Puller - Unit Injector - Adapter 2:T10055/2 .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the transmission.

Drill shavings must not get into the transmission or into the opening for the drive axle. Vacuum up any shavings if necessary.

-- Carefully remove the cloth. Make sure that no shavings get into the transmission when doing so.

-- Carefully clean the transmission and the opening for the drive axle.

-- Coat the outer circumference and sealing lips on the new shaft seal with transmission fluid.

Installation position: the open side of the seal faces the transmission.

Small Seal, Installing

-- Insert the Seal Installer - Inner Output Shaft:T10399/1 .

-- Place the seal -2- on the Seal Installer - Inner Output Shaft:T10399/1 .

-- Install the seal until it stops using the Seal Installer - Inner Output Shaft:T10399 .

Large Seal, Installing

-- Place the seal -1- on the Seal Installer - Outer Output Shaft:T10400 .

The spring -arrow- points away from the thrust piece.

-- Install the gasket all the way.

-- Turn the thrust piece inside the transmission before removing it.

-- Install the bevel box. Refer to BEVEL BOX, INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH 3.6L, 206 KW ENGINE .

-- Check the ATF level and add ATF if necessary. Refer to ATF .
