Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spark Plug Removal Tool:3122 B
- Compression Tester Kit:V.A.G 1763
- Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 5A:V.A.G 1381/5A
- Fuel Injection Gauge Kit - Adapter V.A.G 1381/1:V.A.G 1381/1
- Puller - Ignition Coil:T10095A
- Elbow Assembly Tool:T10118
Test Conditions
- The engine oil temperature is at least 30 °C
- The battery voltage must be at least 11.5V.
- The selector lever must be in the "P" or "N" position.
Test Sequence
-- Remove the ignition coil with power output stage. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the spark plugs using the Spark Plug Removal Tool:3122 B .
-- Check the compression using the Compression Tester Kit:V.A.G 1763 , Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 1:V.A.G 1381/1 and Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 5A:V.A.G 1381/5A .

-- Have a second technician start the engine long enough until the tester shows there is no longer an increase in pressure.
Compression values:

-- Install the spark plugs using the Spark Plug Removal Tool:3122 B and tighten.
-- Install the ignition coils with output stages. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- To do so, turn on the ignition and select the following menu item on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester:
- 0001 - Generate readiness code
